# Qt5/C++11 → Qt6/C++17 Migration Status

## Session 017: QDesktopWidget Migration Complete (2026-08-22)

### ✅ Completed Work

#### QDesktopWidget → QScreen Migration Complete
Migrated all QApplication::desktop() usage to QGuiApplication::primaryScreen() for Qt6 compatibility:

**Files Updated:**
1. **Lts/Plugins/AudioVideoManagement/Gui/MobileVideoSystem/avm_mvs_video_team_gui_plugin.cpp**
   - QApplication::desktop() → QGuiApplication::primaryScreen()
   - Added QGuiApplication include
   - Removed duplicate QScreen include

2. **TetraIF/LogView/LogViewTelegramDialog.cpp**
   - QApplication::desktop() → QGuiApplication::primaryScreen()
   - Added QGuiApplication include

**API Changes Applied:**
- `QApplication::desktop()` → `QGuiApplication::primaryScreen()`
- `QDesktopWidget::screenGeometry()` → `QScreen::geometry()` or `availableGeometry()`
- `QDesktopWidget::logicalDpiX()` → `QScreen::logicalDotsPerInchX()`

**Previously Migrated (Commit 793c9f8b):**
- Lts/Plugins/Styles/Light/rme_light_style.cpp
- Lts/Plugins/Styles/Dark/rme_dark_style.cpp

This completes the QDesktopWidget API migration across all modules.
QApplication::desktop() is deprecated in Qt5 and removed in Qt6.

#### QRegExp → QRegularExpression Migration Complete
Migrated all QRegExp usage to QRegularExpression for Qt6 compatibility across the codebase:

**Files Updated:**
1. **Lts/Viewer/SituationMap/SymbologyImpl/symbol_dictionary_impl.cpp**
   - Migrated helper functions to use QRegularExpression::match().hasMatch()
   - Updated inline regex validation for baseSymbolCode (8-digit pattern)
   - Changed function signatures from QRegExp& to QRegularExpression&

2. **Lts/Plugins/PlanEditor/mil2525d_to_mil2525c.cpp**
   - Fixed m_sidcQuery.exactMatch() → match().hasMatch()
   - Member variable already migrated to QRegularExpression type

3. **Lts/Plugins/PresentationManagement/Gui/Script/ScriptTimelineEditor/pre_script_dialog.cpp**
   - Video file pattern matching migrated
   - Added QRegularExpression include

4. **Lts/Proxies/TrainingAreaBase/Plugins/Nmea/nmea_handler_rx.cpp**
   - NMEA message parsing with QRegularExpression (4 occurrences)
   - Split operations using captured groups

5. **Lts/Proxies/TrainingAreaBaseOC/handler_aes_data.cpp**
   - AES data handler regex patterns migrated (2 occurrences)
   - Message validation patterns

6. **Lts/Services/AudioVideoManagement/stream_name_mapping.\***
   - Stream name validation patterns
   - Header and implementation updated

7. **Lts/Services/NmeaManagement/nmea_handler.cpp**
   - NMEA handler regex patterns

8. **Lts/Viewer/SituationMap/Symbology/sidc_builder_base.cpp, sidc_codec.cpp**
   - SIDC code validation patterns
   - Previously migrated

9. **Test Files**
   - main.cpp files updated for compilation

**API Changes Applied:**
- `QRegExp::exactMatch(str)` → `QRegularExpression::match(str).hasMatch()`
- `QRegExp::cap(n)` → `QRegularExpressionMatch::captured(n)`
- Include `<QRegularExpression>` instead of `<QRegExp>`

**Remaining QRegExp Files (External/Third-Party):**
- `specs/external/gdb/qt5printers/typeinfo.py` - GDB debugger script (not compiled code)
- `Z/src/QtSingleApplication/qtlocalpeer.cpp` - Third-party code (already has migration comment)

#### Previous: BUILD_RTI=OFF Build Fixes Complete
Fixed all compilation errors preventing BUILD_RTI=OFF configuration from building successfully:

1. **RTI Header Include Guards**
   - `Lts/Proxies/TrainingAreaBase/dds_handler.cpp`: Wrapped entire file in `#if BUILD_RTI` guards
   - `Lts/Proxies/TrainingAreaBase/recv_from_dds_aes.h`: Added BUILD_RTI guard around tab_db.h include
   - `Lts/Proxies/TrainingAreaBase/main_handler.h`: Added BUILD_RTI guards for tab_db.h include

2. **Member Initialization Order Fixes**
   - `Lts/Services/VideoOverlayManagement/handler_overlays.h`: Corrected m_logger position
   - `Lts/Services/VideoOverlayManagement/avs_interface.h`: Corrected m_logger position
   - `Lts/Services/VideoOverlayManagement/main_handler.h`: Corrected m_logger position

3. **Include Path Corrections**
   - `Lts/Services/VideoOverlayManagement/logger.cpp`: Changed from NGLLogger.h to INGLLogger.h

4. **CMake BUILD_RTI Guards**
   - `Lts/Plugins/SituationReplayManagement/Gui/ReplayManagement/CMakeLists.txt`: Wrapped in IF(BUILD_RTI)
   - `Lts/Proxies/CombatNetRadio/CMakeLists.txt`: Moved Qt6::Core and Qt6::Network linking outside IF(BUILD_RTI)

5. **Qt6 API Migration**
   - `Lts/Plugins/Styles/Light/rme_light_style.cpp`: QDesktopWidget → QScreen API
   - `Lts/Plugins/Styles/Dark/rme_dark_style.cpp`: QDesktopWidget → QScreen API
   - Multiple plugin files: Removed QDesktopWidget includes

6. **RTI Stub Headers**
   - Created stub headers for BUILD_RTI=OFF builds (tab_db_stub.hpp, pdm.hpp, etc.)

#### Build Validation
- ✅ BUILD_RTI=OFF: 1112 targets compiled successfully
- ✅ No fatal errors
- ⚠️ Some deprecation warnings (acceptable for migration phase)

   - Complete BUILD_RTI=ON validation
   - Run full test suite (deferred until final phase)
   - Policy checks

**Completed Milestones:**
- ✅ BUILD_RTI=OFF build validation (1112 targets)
- ✅ QDesktopWidget → QScreen migration (all files)
- ✅ QRegExp → QRegularExpression migration (all application code)

### ⚠️ Known Blockers

1. **RTI Connext DDS 7.7.0 C++ Compatibility**
   - RTI only supports C++14/C++17 (HARD BLOCKER for C++20+/C++23)
   - Cannot mix C++ variants in same build
   - **Resolution**: Standardize on C++17 for entire project

2. **External Dependencies**
   - RTI Connext DDS 7.7.0 required for BUILD_RTI=ON testing
   - ArcGIS Runtime SDK 100.15 required for some modules
   - **Status**: Dependencies available in CI environment

3. **Qt6 API Migration**
   - ✅ QDesktopWidget → QScreen: RESOLVED
   - ✅ QRegExp → QRegularExpression: RESOLVED (all application code)
   - ⏳ SIGNAL/SLOT syntax: Pending (low priority, works with deprecated API)
   - ⏳ QTextCodec removal: Pending (low priority, UTF-8 by default in Qt6)

   - RTI 7.7.0 incompatibility with C++20+/C++23
   - All CMake presets updated to C++17
   - Compiler flags standardized

2. **BUILD_RTI Feature Flag**
   - RTI code fully guarded with #if BUILD_RTI
   - Stub headers provided for OFF builds
   - Allows development without RTI license

3. **Qt6 API Migration Pattern**
   - QDesktopWidget → QScreen (primaryScreen())
   - QTextCodec removal (UTF-8 by default in Qt6)
   - QRegExp → QRegularExpression
