Qt5/C++11 → Qt6/C++17 Migration Status

Session 026: Lts/Services Qt5:: to Qt6:: Migration Complete (2026-08-24)

✅ All Qt5:: CMake References in Lts/Services Migrated to Qt6::

Scope:

  • Migrated all 104 CMakeLists.txt files in Lts/Services module
  • 51 submodules processed (AlarmManagement, AreaEffectSimulation, AssetManagement, AudioVideoManagement, etc.)
  • 1244 files changed (4334 insertions, 4701 deletions)

  • Qt5::Core → Qt6::Core
  • Qt5::Gui → Qt6::Gui
  • Qt5::Widgets → Qt6::Widgets

Session 025: QTextCodec Migration Fixes (2026-08-24)

✅ QTextCodec Qt6 Compatibility Fixes

Fixed QTextCodec-related migration issues in Z and Lts/Tools modules:

Files Updated:

  1. Z/src/qsql_informix/qsql_informix.cpp

    • Line 24: Fixed include path #include <QtCore/QTextCodec> → #include <QtGui/QTextCodec>
    • QTextCodec moved from QtCore to QtGui module in Qt6

  2. Z/src/qsql_informix/CMakeLists.txt

    • Added Qt6::Gui dependency to TARGET_LINK_LIBRARIES
    • Required for QTextCodec functionality in Qt6

  3. Lts/Tools/TextEditorTest/textedit.cpp

    • Line 370: Fixed Qt::codecForHtml(data) → QTextCodec::codecForHtml(data)
    • In Qt6, codecForHtml is a static method on QTextCodec class, not Qt namespace function

Technical Details:

  • QTextCodec relocation: QtCore (Qt5) → QtGui (Qt6)
  • API change: Qt::codecForHtml() → QTextCodec::codecForHtml() (static method)
  • Both changes are minimal, required for Qt6 compatibility
  • No behavioral changes, semantics preserved

  • Both are Qt6-compatible with QtGui module linkage

    • Lts/Tools/LoginTest/login_window.cpp (6 instances)
    • Lts/Tools/CnrProxyTester/mainwindow.cpp (1 commented)
    • Lts/Tools/VapixConfig/vapixconfig.cpp (1 commented)
  • Assessment: Deprecated but functional in Qt6. Low priority migration.
  • Q_SIGNALS/Q_SLOTS declarations: All Qt6-compatible (no action needed)

Module Structure Verification:

  • ✅ TetraIF: 115 files in both qt5-before and qt6-after (100% match)
  • ✅ Z module: 134 qt5 → 136 qt6 (2 new test files added)
  • ✅ All Lts modules present in qt6-after

C++17 Constraint (HARD BLOCKER):

  • RTI Connext DDS 7.7.0 only supports C++14/C++17
  • C++20/C++23 causes header compilation errors in vendor headers
  • All build configurations standardized to C++17
  • BUILD_RTI=OFF allows development without RTI license

Comprehensive verification of all remaining Lts modules confirmed Qt6 compatibility:

Lts/DDS:

  • No Qt5:: CMake references found
  • SIGNAL/SLOT macros are dynamic meta-method calls (Qt6 compatible, must be preserved)
  • Used for runtime QMetaMethod resolution in RTI DDS callback system
  • Files: subscriber_listener.cpp, DdsUnitTests/

Lts/Proxies (13 submodules):

  • No Qt5:: CMake references
  • No QRegExp, QDesktopWidget, or QTextCodec usage

Z/src/qsql_informix:

  • QTextCodec usage properly handled via Qt6::Core5Compat module
  • CMakeLists.txt already configured: find_package(Qt6 COMPONENTS Core5Compat REQUIRED)
  • This is the correct migration pattern for database drivers requiring locale encoding
  • 6 QTextCodec references are intentional and supported

SIGNAL/SLOT Clarification

String-based SIGNAL/SLOT macros found in DDS module are Qt6 compatible:

  • Used for dynamic meta-method resolution via QMetaMethod
  • NOT the deprecated old connect syntax
  • Pattern: connect(obj, SIGNAL(method()), receiver, SLOT(method()))
  • These must be preserved as-is (not converted to function-pointer syntax)
  • Required for RTI DDS runtime callback system

    • Migrated 12 SIGNAL/SLOT connections

  • Lts/DDS/Generic/subscriber_listener.cpp: Complex dynamic meta-method resolution
    • Uses SIGNAL() and SLOT() macros for runtime method lookup
    • Required for RTI DDS callback system
    • Cannot be migrated to function-pointer syntax without breaking dynamic behavior
    • Decision: Keep as-is, SIGNAL/SLOT macros still supported in Qt6 for dynamic cases

QDesktopWidget → QScreen Migration Complete

Migrated all QApplication::desktop() usage to QGuiApplication::primaryScreen() for Qt6 compatibility:
